Balasana or Child’s Pose — a great warrior to reduce stress

Yoga has been known since a long to fight from stress. During this pandemic time, it can be our biggest weapon to fight stress, anxiety and depression. When you are stressed, tension is stored in the body making you feel tight and often causing pain.

What is Balasana or Child’s Pose?

Balasana or Child’s Pose is an asana ( in Sanskrit:- बालासन) Bala means Child and Asana means Pose, Pronounced as BAHL-ahs-ahna together.

How to do it?

1) Sit on your heels.

2) It’s your choice how you wanna keep your knees together or apart.

3) Slowly, bend forward by lowering your forehead to touch the floor, exhaling as you do so. Breathing plays a major role in yoga.

4) Keep your arms alongside your body. Make sure that your palms are facing up.

5) Now that you are in this pose, gently press your chest on the thighs or between the thighs if the latter are apart.

6) Since this asana is a resting pose, you can stay in the pose from anywhere between 30 seconds to a few minutes.

7) As you inhale, imagine your breath is being driven through your navel, and pull your navel towards your spine.

8) As you exhale, soften your body and the arms.

How the Child’s Pose fight with Stress and anxiety?

This pose will promote you a very positive feeling, transporting you into your childhood days. After stretching the back (spinal part) relaxes and it calms the muscles, therefore it helps to reduce pain, especially in the neck, back, knees and shoulders. As you continue exhaling and inhaling, the fullness of your breath moves behind the heart and filling the back of the lungs. Child’s Pose will help you develop a broader understanding of your breath. It’s super calming for the mind, great for your digestion as well.
